I'm having a hard time coming up with a good title for my book. I could use some tips from all you awesome people about how you came up with the title of your books?
What was your inspiration?

Hi Melissa! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm so glad you're writing a book!
ReplyDeleteI've completed two and both times didn't title it until the very end, and both times had three different titles before settling on what I liked.
My first book, The Ethos started out as From the Lines of Pythias...but that was too long. Then it was Silhouette which sounded like a romance novel. Then I chose The Ethos because that's what the whole story is about. I worried that it was a little bland, but it was unique. We ended up keeping it.
My second book started out as Valium. But I think that's a registered trademark so I changed it to Volition. But I still didn't feel like it was there, so I now call it Fragility which I *love* but realize it might be too hard of a word for some people, but not for the brilliant rest of us, right? I like this title cuz it has a dual meaning: my main character's relationship with her sadistic ex-husband and the state of the Inhuman. I also feel like it has a good connotation/mood.
Titles are HARD. My favorite title ever is The Forest of Hands and Teeth. That was a good book.
Wow. I never comment this long. Sorry! I'm interested in hearing about what you're writing!
Thank you for this!! I feel better about the whole thing. :-)
ReplyDeleteI've never written a book, so I'm no authority. But, I would wait until you have more of your story written. Plus, I think once you get a publisher, they could help you come up with a title.
